Low cost bus travel with FlixBus

The bus is now the cheapest way to go from city to city in Germany. This is a recent development, as the laws have only changed in the past few years to privatize the intercity bus market. FlixBus has been operating since February 13, 2013, and was the first bus company to start under the new laws, and they have a fast growing and extensive European route network. Tickets are advertised for as low as five euro, but the average price for longer routes is about 20 euro, still a great deal when compared to train prices. Comfortable and convenient, the bus is the way to go for those on a budget.

Best Car Rental Prices from Check24

Check24 is a German comparison website, that compares prices for different companies across many different fields. As car rental costs can vary so widely, we recommend checking here first before deciding on a company to rent a car.

Renting a car can be a great option for the most travel flexibility in Germany. When you first move to Germany, you will be able to use a driver's license from another country, but if staying long term, you should trade in your license for a German one. The procedures for changing your license vary from country to country, but this is where you'll have to go to switch your license in Berlin: https://service.berlin.de/standort/121646/

Travel with Deutsche Bahn

Deutsche Bahn is Germany's national train company. Their high-speed trains are a classic and pleasurable way to travel between towns and cities throughout Germany. Look for the IC and ICE when you book to get the speediest travel times. Deutsche Bahn says that their high speed trains reach speeds of up to 186mph. If you wait until the last minute, taking the train can be the most expensive way to travel within Germany, so booking in advance with the train is always the best option.

Car Sharing from DriveNow

DriveNow is a popular car sharing service in Germany. Simply get the app on your phone, and you can see where the closest cars are parked in your area. Once you sign up for a one time charge of 29 euro, you'll be able to use any DriveNow car, without worrying about separate rental and fuel costs. When you're done, you simply park the car anywhere. Incredibly convenient, and reasonably priced somewhere between public transportation and a taxi, it is especially worthwhile for a group or for transporting objects when you have too much to carry. With premium BMW cars, DriveNow can be a fun way to drive around the city whenever you want without the big commitment of owning your own vehicle.
